The key assignment in this project is to optimize the potential of unused warehouses located in a petrochemical factory complex. The existing is a six bay 12 meters span steel structure with 6 meters high space. The layout will be divided into café and coworking space. After a brief discussion we decided to insert a mezzanine floor to create the coworking space and lay the café kitchen and staff area underneath. By designing that way, we manage to create an uninterrupted activity flow and more private working area.
While the major materials used for new elements are waxed wood, frosted glass, cement board panel to create smooth finishes, the original material of existing elements such as concrete, steel are re-exposed by removing the paint so as to emphasize its rough character and heavy textured existing. Together random leaves mural, indoor vegetation, and a splash of bright neon sign letters, carefully composed to create the updated industrial vibe.
